UCSD, La Jolla, Calif. - (November 15, 2003) - Leslie Coons and George Mathews had the top performances in the first 2003-4 Team Thor throws meet. The meet began a series scheduled approximately monthly through May 1.
Coons, the U.S.'s fifth-ranked hammer thrower for 2002, tossed the implement 64.61 meters (212 feet) on the newly-leveled UCSD throwing field.
Mathews, runner-up in the Masters National Championships in 2003, threw the 5 kilogram implement 52.99 meters (173 feet 10 inches) and heaved the 20 pound weight just over 20 meters.
Five more meets are scheduled for December 13, January 24, February 28, April 3, and May 1 at UCSD. Each meet starts at 10 a.m. and includes the six throws: hammer, weight, superweight, discus, shot, and javelin.
