$20,000 in Scholarships Offered to Youth Athletes

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - (January 12, 2004) - Get on the fast track with the Verizon Youth Progress Award.

Verizon has partnered with USA Track & Field (USATF) to help student athletes get a "good start" with the Verizon Youth Progress Award program. Applicants must meet ll eligibility requirements including:

Be a high school senior graduating in Spring 2004
Have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher (4.0 scale)
Have participated as an athlete in a Verizon Youth Series track & field and/or cross country event within the past 24 months
Reside or attend school in an area served by Verizon Communications or Verizon Wireless
Plan to enroll in full-time study at an accredited two-year or four-year college in the U.S.

A total of $20,000 will be awarded to four outstanding student athletes-so get on the fast track to higher education with the Verizon Youth Progress Award program.
