SAN DIEGO, Calif. - (May 7, 2005) - Long Distance Running Chairmen Thom Hunt and Paul Greer have announced a Saturday evening Distance Carnival for May 7 at Patrick Henry High School.
The Carnival offers a total of $1200 in prize money to San Diego-Imperial Association members. $900 will go to the top three men and the top three women in invitational races at 800 meters, 5000 meters, and one mile. $300 is offered in masters age-graded miles. Each of the eight competitions offers $75 for first, $50 for second, and $25 for third.
Since the outdoor championships are at 1500 meters, the masters miles should provide an opportunity to attempt age group records against top masters competitors. Three masters miles will be run. The first will be for men 40 through 49, the second for men 50 and over, and the third for all women 40 and over. In each race, the runners will start together and the results will be age graded according to the latest available WMA tables. Men (combined from the two races) and women will then be ranked separately.
In addition to the invitational races, there will be a series of open races. The time standards, meet schedule, driving directions, entry fees, and registration information are available at the link below.
