San Diego-Imperial Athletics Congress

MEETING OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

University Club
February 13, 1987

  1. President Ken Bernard called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. In addition to the President and Secretary, the attendees were Linda Gorman, Kevin Heaton, Kathy Loper, Jeff Rigdon, Bill Stock, Judy Stolpe, and Eleanor Von Ruden.
  2. The Board approved the minutes of the annual meeting of December 15.
  3. The President gave the Treasurer's report. The January checking account balance was $7235.77, while the certificates of deposit were another $16,000. The checking account balance did not reflect $3000 in outstanding checks to the national body.
  4. The Board approved a motion by Heaton, amended by Gorman, to raise the Association registration fee to $10, or the maximum allowed if lower, but to retain the fee for youth athletics at $7. The increase will take effect for 1988 registrations.
  5. Stolpe advised the Board of a meeting at City Hall February 18 at 9 a.m. concerning proposed fees for city services to public events which charge for entry or admission. For road races these fees would include a surcharge of $0.50 per runner, the posting of a $2000 bond for cleanup, and payment for police services. During discussion, it was determined that the city had not notified SDIAC of this proposal. Bernard and Stolpe will attend.
  6. The Board approved a motion by Stolpe to institute a women's Grand Prix series for the 1987 Association Championship long-distance races with a total prize fund of $725.
  7. The Board approved a motion by Stock that the masters division award a total of $850: $50 each to the winning registrants in nine men's and eight women's divisions in the Fastest Masters 10K April 11.
  8. The Board approved a motion by Gorman that the juniors award a total of $600 in scholarships in a three-race Grand Prix comprising the Mission Bay 10K (held January 18), the Lions-Padres 10K (July 26), and the Balboa Boogie 5K (December 5). Future Grand Prix would skip the 1988 Mission Bay 10K and conclude with the following Mission Bay 10K each season.
  9. The Board approved the Chairman's motion that the prize fund for the men's Grand Prix increase to a total of $1500.
