  1. President Graeme Shirley called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. In addition to the President and Secretary, the attendees were Lolitia Bache, Paul Greer, Lillian Mahoney, George Mathews, and Wes Williams.
  2. The Board approved the minutes of the meeting of June 16.
  3. Treasurer Lolitia Bache reported that the checking account balance was $14,992.03 while the certificates of deposit were another $16,000.
  4. Williams reported on the very successful Association Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The meet drew almost 200 entrants from 18 IAAF Federations. Five Choc Sportsman Field records were set, and another tied. 31 Americans, including Angela Williams and Allyson Felix, achieved Olympic Trials A or B standards. Thursday proved to be a good day for the meet.
  5. Greer reported on the Dirt Dogs cross country series which will begin August 21 at Lake Hodges. Adidas plans to split into A and B teams to keep the team scoring competitive.
  6. The President noted that in racewalking, Tim Seaman won the 20K Olympic Trials, with Curt Clausen 4th.
  7. The President gave a quick report on youth. The Region 15 meet, originally scheduled for Las Vegas, then moved to Chula Vista, ended up at Cerritos College. The results are on the website.
  8. Mathews reported that the West Region Masters Track & Field Championships went well at the Home Depot Center, with over 300 competitors. The Southern California Association is proposing to have an annual masters meet at the Home Depot Center. The National Championships will be in Decatur, Illinois, August 5-8, followed by the NCCWMA championships in Puerto Rico at the end of August. The Association Masters Outdoor Track & Field Championships and Chuck McMahon Memorial Meet went well at Westview High School, with volunteer assistance from the San Diego Track Club and the Senior Olympics.
  9. Mahoney will file a record application for PhilAm Garcia's 100 meter dash Guam National Record set at the Association Championships.
  10. G. Shirley reported that San Diego USATF membership for 2004 has broken all previous records. Current membership is 1570 (1159 youth, 187 open, and 224 masters), almost 300 ahead of 2002 on the same date, and 151 above the full year of 2002.
  11. Mathews presented information on a series of proposed meets to provide opportunities for potential Olympic team members to attain Olympic A standards. The first was the Masters West Region meet. The remainder will be at the Olympic Training Center July 28 and 31, and August 4 and 8. The Board unanimously approved a motion by Mathews that the Association waive the local sanction fee, pay the national sanction fee, and provide officials for the meets.
  12. The meeting adjourned at 7:54 p.m.
