MEETING OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

  1. President Graeme Shirley called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. In addition to the President and Secretary, the attendees were Lolitia Bache, Paul Baumhoefner, Rick Fultz, Paul Greer, Gary Henderson, Lillian Mahoney, George Mathews, Tom Meyer, Jennifer Nanista, Brad Pagano, Sharon Powell, Arnie Robinson, Elizabeth Tate, and Wes Williams.
  2. The Board approved the minutes of the meeting of May 19.
  3. Treasurer Lolitia Bache reported that the checking account balance was $15,489.73 while the certificates of deposit were another $16,000.
  4. Nanista gave the Board an update on the June 17 Association Track & Field Championships. There are almost 200 athletes registered, with some very high quality fields. Williams noted that Tyree Washington and Miesha McKelvy, the 2003 Association Athletes of the Year for San Diego, and Number 1 and Number 4 in the world in their events last year, are scheduled to compete.
  5. Greer distributed copies of the 2004 Dirt Dogs Series schedule. The first race will be new: the Bake at the Lake 4- Mile August 21. The series continues every other week through the Association Cross Country Championships November 13 which move to UCSD. The series will add a new age division for 60 and over, for men and women. The Association 5 km Road Championship will be Saturday June 19.
  6. G. Shirley noted that youth team rosters have been posted on the website for all 28 teams to allow coaches to check their rosters for completeness, and accuracy of spelling of names and birth dates.
  7. Mathews introduced Rick Fultz and Brad Pagano from the Senior Olympics who are coordinating volunteers and registration for the Chuck McMahon Memorial Track & Field Meet, the Association Masters Track & Field Championships, June 26.
  8. G. Shirley stated that the number of registered officials stands at 102, and that a roster is on the website.
  9. G. Shirley reported that the Association had reached 1500 (1123 youth, 166 open, and 211 masters), the highest in history, with the masters championships and Dirt Dogs series expected to add significantly.
  10. Mathews presented a $400 travel request for a youth to the USA Juniors Track & Field Championships. After some discussion, the motion was withdrawn, with Greer suggesting a source of funds from an association club.
  11. The President commended Elite Racing for raising $85 million for leukemia research in the seven Rock ‘n' Roll Marathons, and over $100 million in the various music-theme races.
  12. The meeting adjourned at 7:39 p.m.
