In the absence of President Ken Bernard, Vice President Lolitia Bache called the meeting to order at 7:50 p.m. In addition to the Vice President and Secretary, the attendees were Erl Cabanas, Arnie Robinson, B J Segui, Joni Shirley, Jim Skelly, and Elizabeth Tate. The Secretary certified the voting Members.
The Members approved the minutes of the meeting of October 19.
In the absence of the President there was no Treasurer's report.
Tate reported on some of the activities in the Youth Committee at the Convention. There was a proposal that Baton Rouge be a permanent site for the National Junior Olympics Track & Field Championships. The Regions should also select permanent sites. This will be acted on at the 1995 Convention.
Robinson reported that he has been conducting monthly meetings with all the Youth team coaches the first Thursday each month. All the teams have been represented (about eight attend), save for Fallbrook and Imperial Valley, and those have been in contact. The Tijuana coach attends, and one of the track meets will be there. Skelly also was at one of the meetings to coordinate activities of the Officials. The Youth Committee is collecting monthly fees from each of the clubs. The money is available to fund activities of the individual teams for transportation and other activities. Tate added that at the convention Youth acted to require that all club coaches be certified at Level I or higher. There will be a Level I clinic in San Diego the last two weekends in January.
Cabanas reported that his club, Team Edge, will conduct the Association Junior Olympics Track & Field Championships. It is important that all the clubs assist at that meet, since the Association is scheduled to conduct the 1996 Regional Championships. At some future date, Robinson would like SDIAC to bid for the National Championships. The date of the 1995 Association meet has not been set, but the traditional one is the day after the State CIF Championships, usually the first Sunday in June.
G. Shirley suggested that the Youth Committee make the clubs aware of the USATF insurance coverage for scheduled club workouts. They should also explore whether they can get a single sanction to cover the series of Youth Track & Field meets.
Skelly announced that the Officials will hold their annual meeting at 7 p.m., January 11 at the Lemon Grove Recreation Center. They will then conduct their certification workshop February 4 at Balboa Stadium. Among other meets this year, they will officiate the Conference Championships for UCSD.
G. Shirley reported briefly on the activities in Rules at the Convention, including the showdown between the athletes and the Executive Director. He deferred a report on the Cross Country Series.
J. Shirley reported on the successful Mission Bay 25K. The 1995 race will not be a National Championship.
